What We Do
Action Africa is a volunteer run 501(c)(3) organization based in the District of Columbia is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors that establishes and oversees implementation of policy. Action Africa, led by a team of relief and development professionals, works to increase sustainable economic self-sufficiency for sub-Saharan youth and families through the provision of medical, educational, and business development activities and as well supports newly arrived refugees in the Washington, DC metro area.
It is a catalyst for Africans to participate in a systematic way in the rural development of their people on the continent of Africa. The fight against poverty needs the participation of the local people, from planning to execution. Action Africa is working with highly dedicated personnel on the ground that work to bring basic health care to the populations, to focus on educating the children, and to inspire sustainable economic growth and financial stability for rural populations. The challenges are enormous; corruption is part of everyday life. To make progress with its programs, Action Africa leads the fight to dismantle corruption at every level, especially at the local level.
Action Africa was founded in 2000. Following a three-year period of ground work and planning, it began implementing programs in Nigeria and Sierra Leone and Washington, DC. The organizations direct experience and those of its collaborating partners are the foundation for our methods, philosophy and approaches. Action Africa’s programs serve children & families in rural African villages.
Africa is a place of great need and great hope. With about 10% of the world’s population, it is home to people weakened by the prolonged effects of untreated malaria and malnutrition, now having to fight AIDS.
Despite poverty and conflicts, people in rural villages are determined to improve conditions for their children. Action Africa meets villagers at the intersection of health, education and micro-enterprise, to promote grassroots development. Free health clinics and medical programs with volunteer medical practitioners and donated supplies assist villages with no local medical facilities. Malaria and HIV/AIDS prevention education is ongoing. Provision of clean water helps promote wellness and prevent disease.
We provide targeted support to children and families.
